REVUE I'll be honest - I wrongly expected more of a picture book. I thought I was getting a hoard of visual samples of The Aesthetic Movement. Instead, I had to recalibrate my expectations on discovering that this is a scholarly work, richly endowed with the names of the central figures of the movement, and cameos which propel the reader on to the next example. If you come into it knowing nothing, it's a fast, deep dive, touching on the innovative, romantic and sometimes rebellious character of the artists, with illustrations of premier examples of the movement. It will take me a second reading, and a bit of background research, to fully process the information - but this book is a great catalyst. It's also laid out in coffee-table style, with plenty of white space, and quotations called out in over-sized font, so it's easy on the eyes, and easy to dip into and learn something even if reading time is limited.
